Are we seriously still asking this question? Of course, a woman can become a franchise owner. While there is still a stigma that a woman can’t hold the same weight in responsibilities as a man, the fact of the matter is that as of last year, there were 12.3 million women-owned businesses in the U.S., and 4 out of every 10 U.S. businesses were owned by women.

Women entrepreneurs are budding every which way. Many women are focusing on their careers before even thinking about marriage and children. On the flip side, many women decide to start their own businesses even after getting married and having kids. Mompreneurs is an actual term nowadays, and these women are killin’ the game when it comes to work-life balance.

Owning a franchise allows women, whether they are single or they have a family, the opportunity to actually have that work-life balance, and be in charge of their time, their financial abilities, and most importantly, their happiness. According to the Franchise Business Review’s 2019 Top Franchises for Women Report, almost 90% of women franchisees said they enjoy operating their own business, 75% said they would recommend their franchise brand to others, and 72% said they would do it again (i.e., own a franchise) knowing what they know today.

To honestly be able to say that you enjoy your career is not something that happens for everyone. When you buy a franchise, you are choosing your business. You are choosing what to do with your life, and when you choose well, happiness comes right along with it.

Of course, there are hopes and fears of every new business owner, no matter what gender — but it’s those hopes that you should focus on. According to a survey taken of a thousand people who plan to start a business one day, the top hopes of these would-be business owners include having more independence and creative freedom, making a lot of money, and loving it. When you put those hopes and dreams out there in the universe and really set clear goals, there’s no limit to what you can achieve.

So, yes, women can and should certainly jump on any franchise opportunities that come their way — and there are so many opportunities. The top franchise industries for women include Travel & Hospitality, Child Services, and Advertising & Sales. But ladies, don’t limit yourself! The world is your oyster — it’s time to own it.
